Life On The Outside
Living with the Collateral Consequence of Incarceration
Mondays at 7:00pm-8:00pm beginning February 22, 2021 via Zoom
The collateral consequences, or extra penalties that are imposed on justice-involved people, include such things as having to check a box on a job application stating that you have been convicted of a crime, denial of professional licenses, inability to own a firearm, or vote. These consequences can put added pressure on anyone attempting to readjust to society, provide for themselves their families, and put their past behind them.
Many people suffer from this burden which can lead to poor mental health outcomes, such as stress, anxiety, and depression. This support group will provide an opportunity for dialogue, where you can come and express the challenges that you face, how you are coping with them, and advice for others so that positive steps can be taken to achieve your goals. Sharing knowledge about available resources with other people in a safe, caring, and confidential environment will lead to better mental health and life choices.
